Annual Catholic Appeal
This year's Annual Catholic Appeal has us reflect upon A Future Full of Hope: Growing in our Faith, Providing for our Youth, and Serving our Community.
A Video Message from the Archbishop
Please prayerfully consider giving to the needs of our Archdiocese as we begin the 2012 Annual Catholic Appeal.
Throughout the next few weeks, we will be asking all of our households to participate
so that we can achieve the highest percentage of participation ever in our history,
and we will be asking each weekend until we’ve heard from everyone!
Please take time to reflect on the gift you will make this year,
keeping in mind that if you are not already giving a gift of $365 or more,
to please consider doing so this year.
This year our goal is $45,897, and anything raised over that goal comes straight back to the parish!
Thank you if you have already made your gift to the Appeal.

Referendum 74
"Marriage
between a man and a woman is the foundation of our society. The key to
understanding the Church’s view of marriage can be found in the two
fundamental ends or purposes toward which it is oriented: the good of
the spouses and the procreation of children. Man and woman are created
as complementary in God’s plan, and God established marriage precisely
so that man and woman could participate in his love, selflessly give
themselves to each other in love, and enjoy the benefits of their love.
Married love is also life-giving: according to God’s plan, the crowning
fruit of marriage is the bearing of children. These two meanings are
inseparable."
Excerpt
from letter from Most. Rev. J. Peter Sartain (Archbishop of
Seattle) and Most Rev. Eusebio Elizondo M.Sp.S. (Auxiliary Bishop of
Seattle)

As you know, our governor recently signed into law a bill that redefines marriage in the State of Washington. St. Alphonsus will be taking part in a signature drive to place this matter before the voters of our state in November. Referendum 74 will ask voters to approve or reject this redefinition of marriage. If you would like to sign you can do so at the parish office (open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, closed from 11:30-12:30pm for lunch).
Below are important documents from the Archdiocese of Seattle explaining the details of Referendum 74 and addressing frequently asked questions.

Everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. Stewardship is the ability to share our gifts of time, talent and treasure with others - with no strings attached and no condition.
Each year we ask parishioners to prayerfully and thoughtfully consider what they are willing to contribute to the parish both financially and temporally. Take a step towards accomplishing the design God has for you, our parish, and the greater Catholic Church. Eucharistic Adoration
Our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel is open on Tuesdays and
Fridays from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Please contact the parish office in person to obtain the entrance code.
The Adoration Chapel is a great spiritual treasure for the prayer life of our parish.
We would love to be able to offer this form of life giving prayer more
frequently by extending the days and hours the Chapel is open. However
to do so we must be able to ensure the safety and security of the
adorers, and the sacred dignity of our Eucharistic Lord, at all hours of
adoration. This necessitates that at least two committed (signed up)
adorers be present at all times.
Adorers do not need to be St. Alphonsus parishioners, they just need to
be able to commit to an hour per week. For more information please
contact Charles Zweigart at (206) 365-3457.
Currently the Chapel
has just enough adorers to remain open on Tuesdays and Fridays, however
we still need more volunteers for these specific times: Tuesdays: 12-1pm, 2-3pm, 5-6pm & Fridays: 10-11am, 12-1pm, 1-2pm, 3-4pm, 6-7pm

"We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us”. We
have come to believe in God's love: in these words the Christian can
express the fundamental decision of his life. Being Christian is not the
result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an
event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive
direction. - Pope Benedict XVI
